Perhaps you recently started your blogging career or still researching to see if affiliate marketing is for you. Regardless of where you are at, everybody wants to know what is the secret to affiliate marketing? Today I will give you these 4 simple tips!!
If nobody has told you yet, affiliate marketing is not easy. It requires a lot of time and endurance. This means you probably have to have some sort of passion for whatever you are blogging about. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
I have scoured the World Wide Web for tips on affiliate marketing. Among all the different sources that I have read, here are 4 condensed tips!:
1. Helpful Content
First and foremost, helping people should be your primary motive. If you do not seem helpful, people will go to the next site. You need to have helpful content for whatever you are promoting. You will not build traffic if you do not have good content and do not appear to be an “authority” within your field. If this seems like a tough task, just keep in mind that you know more than somebody else and your knowledge will increase with every new post you publish.
Also, include pictures and videos in your content. Not only can they be helpful and make your content look peppy, it can also help you rank higher too!

Another method to provide helpful content besides blog posts, is to consider writing an e-book, your own training material, or lists. In the digital age, attention spans are limited so you can have helpful content. It just cannot be like a 1,000 autobiography all at once.
2. Be Personal
This is an area that can be easy to struggle in, myself included. You can have very helpful content, but nobody wants to read something that appears to have been written by a robot. The point here is you want to relate to the reader to catch and maintain their attention.
You attract people with your content, but keep them coming back with your passion.
Keeping a reader’s attention is a lot harder via computer instead of talking to them in person. So you need to find a simple way to connect to your targeted audience with your personality and content. Do not come across as a used car salesman trying to make a quick buck.
There is also a fine line of privacy concern as well. For example, you need to disclose a certain amount of your personal finances if you are exemplifying yourself for a monthly household budget or your personal health history if you are blogging about certain medical conditions. You need to tell, just don’t tell all.
3. Be Active On Social Media
You can build an excellent site, but it doesn’t mean people will automatically come to it. You need to publicize your site often. This is accomplished by sharing your posts on Google+, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, etc.
Another part is commenting on other blogs. It may leave an option to have a link that others can click on to visit your site. In time, you might be able to build a relationship with your fellow bloggers and one of the established bloggers will do a guest post for you. It doesn’t necessarily have to be the big fish in the pond that you ask to give the post. One of the quasi-unspoken rules in the blogosphere is helping out one another. Your comments & if you blessed with a guest post can help you get more traffic.
By creating a presence on the different online platforms, you will give people an opportunity to click on the link for your site or share it with others. It’s like fishing, your chance of catching a fish increases with every line you have in the water.
Another exposure option is creating an e-mail list, as an incentive to join you can offer a free e-book or training aid.
4. Be Patient
Did I mention that success does not happen overnight? I thought so. I can tell you that holds true for Money Buffalo too. The consensus is you will probably not start seeing a steady increase in traffic until blogging for about 6 months. Looking long-term if you are active and make it to the year mark, you have done better than 90% of the bloggers out there & have a good chance for long-term success.
What About Monetization?
I haven’t touched on monetization of your blog until now. The primary reason is, until you get consistent traffic, you have a narrow chance of making any money.
As this article’s primary focus is affiliate marketing, once you generate traffic, there are two common methods to make money:
- Tastefully Placed Affiliate Links that let the person purchase a product you are Promoting
- A lot lower return rate than affiliate links, but possibly more effective depending on your topic
If you have more entrepreneurial knack, you can sell your own services or goods. This can be training material, consulting, woodworking crafts, etc. The best part is you will probably get a higher commission & it’s a way to diversify yourself.
